The Ritual

Indonesian food bazaar

Proclamation of Indonesian Independence falls tomorrow. To celebrate this special occasion, the Indonesian community got together for a food bazar two Sundays just past.
Needless to say, I was there for a visit :)

Treats!

I normally allow myself just one sweet item a day. This week was a little different. I decided to introduced  Rush Munro's strawberry and cream to some mini Oreo's. I'm proud to announce they've been married happily since!

Reimy brought back some treats from her victory trip in Vegas. Just in case you haven't heard, ReQuest just won the gold medal for the adult division for the 2010 Hip Hop International :)

Teaching an old dog new tricks.

My first cooking course today, has to be added to one of the best days in my life list. Something in my head connected! I felt like a fish swimming in the sea for the very first time.

We covered choux, puff and sweet pastry. I've had a go at baking pastries a fair few times. Today was different, it wasn't just me and a recipe book.I finally had someone to ask the how's and why's.

Aunty Choo's Jawa Mee

The passion for food runs in the family! growing up I was always told not to skim on food, and encouraged to eat as much as I liked. My dear aunt decided to have a go at making Jawa Mee last night. I'm glad she thought of me, when it came to off loading some extras. Here is what Frank and I had for lunch today!

It has been almost 3 years since I had Jawa Mee. Oh boy did it hit the spot!

**Jawa Mee - Penang Nyonya-inspired noodle soup. Despite its name, Jawa Mee has its origin in the Peranakan kitchen far and away from Jawa. The type of Jawa Mee sold by hawkers has the noodle swimming in a transparent tomato-based gravy. It is topped with boiled eggs, boiled potatoes, one or two prawns, fritters, slices of beancurd, a sprinkling of fried grounded peanuts, and chilli paste to taste.
